Teen Dating Violence Prevention

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but what does that have to do with kids? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, kids start dating at an average age of 12 for girls and 13 for boys. Teen dating violence is an adverse childhood experience that affects millions of young people in the United States. We have partnered with the Bakersfield Police Department to offer a virtual safety presentation on teen dating violence for parents and middle school students. This 45-minute presentation lists the types of violence teens can experience in relationships, the warning signs, and how to get help. We are offering two sessions:
